I didn’t sleep very well last night. I woke up at around 3:30 again but this time for no apparent reason. I think the 24hr news cycle around the coronavirus and prepping when I don’t know what to expect is starting to give me anxiety attacks. I think I need to start meditating - even if it’s just 5 mins a day.
Otherwise, today felt like a normal autumn weekend.
Otherwise, today felt like a normal autumn weekend.
T & I went foraging for wild mushrooms for the first time with 2 friends that T climbs with.
We went to Ramsgate market first. It was the first time that both of us have been. The market was quite busy and had a mixture of fresh produce, food stores and clothing stores. We lined up to buy eggs from an old Chinese man. The poor buy was working by himself and had his work cut out because the line was so long. Everyone were buying 20 or more eggs at a time because apparently eggs is the latest thing that everyone’s hoarding at the supermarket.
We also tried a food store called Stevenson’s Fine Food. They had a delicious kale pie which had silverbeet, danish feta and a few other ingredients.
We arrived at Belanglo State Forest around 12:30. There were quite a few other cars there with families also picking mushrooms. When we stopped a few hours later, everyone had left.
Mushroom picking is surprisingly difficult. T had lots of fun because he was good at spotting them. We picked a mushroom called Saffron Milk Caps. They’re orange on the top with gill-like bottom. One of T’s friends cooked some up on the spot. I don’t think they’re all that tastes to be honest. The texture is like gluten and there’s not much taste.
